Intabazwe Agri, established in 2019 as a subsidiary of Ensign Shipping and Logistics, is dedicated to transforming agricultural logistics and value chain integration in South Africa. Based in the Maluti-A-Phofung SEZ in Harrismith, the company serves as a central logistics hub connecting rural producers to major economic regions and export routes. Its vision includes building a world-class inland Agri Hub offering advanced storage, processing, packaging, and distribution services to enhance efficiency and reduce post-harvest losses. Aligned with national goals to shift freight from road to rail, Intabazwe Agri promotes sustainability, lower logistics costs, and reduced emissions. Leveraging Ensign Group’s expertise, it combines modern infrastructure, smart technology, and collaborative partnerships to build an inclusive agricultural supply chain. The company is also committed to community empowerment, job creation, and environmental stewardship, contributing to long-term rural development and food security.

YOUR GRAIN, YOUR VISION
We have long-term lease with the SEZ over a site of approximately 90,000m2 situated within the SEZ consisting of a warehouse of 13,500m2 and a yard of 77,500m2. Recently four new grain silos were erected at the Agri Hub with a total capacity of 8,000mt and 60mt per hour intake and output capacity. We have further equipped the site with a new Kelmar reach stacker and forklifts to facilitate the handling of containerized and break-bulk cargo.
Upgrades to the existing rail infrastructure is ongoing and expected to be finalized soon. Our development plan for the site is outlined below:
- A second phase will entail the expansion of the silo capacity to commercial silos and the development of a 15,000m2 warehouse for the flat-storage and handling of various cargoes including grains, lucerne and fertilizer for imports and exports.
- The ultimate objective is to achieve a capacity of 50,000 tons silo storage and between 25,000 m2 to 30,000m2warehouse space.
- The initiative will aide unemployment in the region in that approximately 50-100 permanent jobs as well as many temporary jobs will be created.
- Export cargo will be received at the facility from various sources (hub and spoke) for shipment to Durban for export.
- Imported cargo will move from vessels discharged at the Port of Durban to the Agri Hub.
